Breaks
Breaks separate non-working time from working time. Break duration is deducted from the attendance session before working hours are calculated.
Manual breaks
Section titled “Manual breaks”Manual breaks are recorded as Casual breaks.
- Check in first.
- Select Break In.
- Take the break.
- Select Break Out when you return.
You cannot start Break In without an active attendance session. You also cannot start another break while an active break is already open.
Scheduled breaks
Section titled “Scheduled breaks”Shifts can include configured break times. These create Regular break behavior.
When scheduled break automation is enabled:
- The scheduled break time creates a background task.
- At break time, QTO checks assigned employees for that shift.
- If the employee is checked in and not already on break, QTO creates a Regular break record.
For regular breaks, Break Out may be restricted until the configured break-out time. Casual breaks can be ended manually.
Break details
Section titled “Break details”Break records store:
- break-in time
- break-out time
- type: regular or casual
- duration
- status: Active, Completed, or Extended
An active break becomes Extended when it has been open for more than two hours.
Validation
Section titled “Validation”QTO rejects break times that:
- are in the future
- end before they start
- start before the attendance check-in
- end after attendance checkout
- overlap another break on the same attendance record
