Working Hours and Calculations

Attendance calculations are based on saved records, shift configuration, work calendar day type, break records, and leave records.

Working time = Clock Out - Clock In - Break Time

Open sessions calculate live working time using the current time and active break duration. Saved records are recalculated after relevant attendance or break changes.

For workdays, QTO allocates time in this order:

  1. Regular working hours.
  2. Buffer hours.
  3. Overtime tiers.

If total working hours for the day are below expected hours, QTO records under hours. Under hours are stored on the last record of the day. If the day has under hours, stale overtime is cleared.

Weekend and holiday behavior depends on the applicable shift:

  • If the shift has overtime rules, eligible time can become overtime.
  • If the shift multiplier is 1.0, the time can count as regular working hours.
  • If minimum working hours are not met, Early Checkout can be set.

Buffer hours are used after regular working hours. In summaries, buffer can compensate under hours for payable totals, but it is still shown separately as buffer time.

Overtime is created from remaining eligible time after regular and buffer hours. Shift overtime rules define ranges and multipliers. The table shows raw overtime duration; multiplier detail is available only to users with the required access.

Paid leave contributes working hours for expected workdays. Unpaid leave contributes under hours.

Expected hours come from applicable workday shifts and the work calendar. For attendance summaries, days before the employee joining date are excluded where the employee profile provides a joining date.
